Kirby Cove in Sausalito, California
Kirby Cove is one for the books. The sunset hike down to the cove was amazing. The trail was full of tall, lush trees that made the path smell of pine and peppermint. When we got down we were greeted by an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge minus the crowd of tourists. It’s a great way to enjoy a different angle of the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Amidst the skyscrapers and busy streets of San Francisco lies a lucky find just 20 minutes away from the bustling city. Sausalito is a city perched on a hillside right across the Golden Gate Bridge giving you a picturesque view of the bay. What was once developed as a shipbuilding center during the World War II is now an artistic enclave. Despite welcoming quite a number tourists on a daily basis, you’ll find a hidden gem that is the Kirby Cove. If you think the hilltop view of the Golden Gate Bridge is outstanding then you truly have to take the 1.6 kilometer hike down to the bottom of the hill and revel at the awe worthy view the cove has to offer.
I met up with Instagram friend and now real-life friend, the beautiful Cherrie. I’ve mentioned it before, I love meeting people while traveling and taking photos of them and this trip is no exception. It’s currently the middle of Summer in California and our best effort to avoid the stifling heat backfired big time. We visited the site at sunset and the strong winds was almost hard to brave. And if you’re like us who assumed the cove was only a few meters from the top, prepare yourself for a good 20-minute hike down with a jacket!
Despite the cold the sunset hike was beautiful, to say the least! Ten minutes into our endeavor, we were greeted by lush pine trees and greenery. It literally smelled like Christmas. And definitely a welcoming atmosphere after being on the busy, metropolitan streets of San Francisco. If you love nature then you’ll definitely love the hike down. And if you’re up for it, you can even camp at Kirby Cove, just visit their site for more information.
Once we hit the bottom, we only shared the alluring view and insta-worthy swing with only ten people at most. By the time we were done taking in the beauty of the bay there were only four of us left! If you’re visiting San Francisco then I highly suggest you take the drive to Sausalito and visit Kirby Cove.
